The Missouri Human Rights Act (the Act) makes it illegal to discriminate in any aspect of employment because of an individual’s race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, disability or age (40 through 69), including:

  • Transfer, promotion, layoff, or recall;
  • Job advertisements;
  • Recruitment;
  • Testing;
  • Use of company facilities;
  • Training and apprenticeship programs;
  • Fringe benefits;
  • Pay, retirement plans, or disability leave; or
  • Other terms and conditions of employment.

Examples of sexual harassment include unwanted touching, inappropriate comments, inappropriate conduct, and conditioning one's employment on sexual contact of any kind.

Examples of employment discrimination include:

  • Racial discrimination
  • Gender discrimination
  • Disability discrimination
  • Age discrimination
  • Religious discrimination

Examples of wrongful termination include:

  • Termination based on race
  • Termination based on gender
  • Retaliatory/whistleblower claims
  • Retaliatory termination for complaints of discrimination
  • Retaliatory termination for complaints of harassment

Examples of employer retaliation include:

  • Retaliation for Whistleblowing
  • Retaliation for complaints of racial discrimination
  • Retaliation for complaints of sexual harassment

Examples of overtime pay violations include:

  • Unpaid overtime
  • Misclassification of exempt employees
